The formation of the Ottawa Valley Student Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA), in 2009, was made possible through collaboration between the A&WMA Ottawa Valley Chapter (OVC) and the Society of Environmental Engineering, Development, management and Science (SEEDS - a Carleton University, University of Ottawa, and Algonquin College environmental student group).

If you are considering a career in the environmental field, the A&WMA can help you get started on the right path. Your membership will provide you with the following:

  • Access to the A&WMA’s online Career Center, where you can browse the latest job listings, upload your resume, and access a range of valuable career information.

  • Webinars on environmental careers that will give you the inside scoop on jobs in the field directly from industry leaders.

  • Access to more than 8,000 environmental professionals worldwide via A&WMA’s online membership directory.

  • Opportunities to network face-to-face with these professionals at A&WMA conferences and events held throughout the year. The OVC holds several breakfast seminars each year and, typically, one full-day workshop. Information on these events is available at our website

  • Access to publications including the Journal of the A&WMA, Environmental Managers Magazine and through A&WMA’s growing database of technical information on the A&WMA Online Library.

  • Reduced rates, and in some cases other financial assistance, to attend A&WMA’s Annual Conference & Exhibition (ACE) and other A&WMA Specialty Technical Conferences. This year ACE is in San Antonio, TX and the OVC is considering sponsoring a group of students to enter the Team Student Competition held at the conference. Other events are advertised on the A&WMA website.

  • Scholarships to outstanding students to help with tuition and other expenses. In addition to the scholarships offered by A&WMA International, many regional Sections or local Chapters of the A&WMA also offers scholarships specific to their members or geographic location.

Plus, if you become a student member, you will be entitled to a free one-year membership in A&WMA for the first year after you graduate, allowing you to stay connected to A&WMA as you transition from student to young professional.

Please visit the A&WMA website for additional information on the A&WMA and membership benefits. In addition to the scholarships described on the A&WMA website, several Ontario-specific scholarships are also available each year; information can be found here.

It's easy to join! You can find the application form and submission information here.
